Campbell River RCMP have arrested a suspect in an assault incident that left the victim with life-threatening injuries.
Police say on August 1, they responded to a 9-1-1 call of a woman reportedly being assaulted in Campbell River, where after arriving, they found a 44-year-old woman who had been severely assaulted in her residence.
The woman was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, with officers later arresting a 24-year-old man in connection to the incident, holding him in custody for his first court appearance on Friday.
Both the woman and the man are known to each other, with the suspect charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault, Aggravated Assault, and Forcible Confinement.
The man is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday, according to police.
Officers add that the Campbell River RCMP Major Crime Unit has conduct of the file and is continuing their investigation, with no further details to be released at this time.
