Campbell River Search and Rescue is getting a backup generator, along with solar panels and storage batteries, thanks to the Strathcona Regional District.
Last month the board approved spending just over $113,000 to hire an Island electrical firm to install the generator, and additional solar and battery capacity, for the volunteer organization’s hall in Willow Point.
The money comes from a billion-dollar fund set up last year by the provincial government to improve infrastructure in BC communities.
The regional district leases part of the Search and Rescue Hall to host an Emergency Operation Centre.
The new backup generator will be propane-powered, the contractor will also install a new tank as part of the project.
