New homes coming for Indigenous people through provincial investment

Nearly 100 new homes are coming to Campbell River for Indigenous resident, thanks to a new partnership between the province and First Nations.

On Tuesday the provincial government and BC Housing announced it will be working with Indigenous housing providers to build more than 1,600 new affordable rental homes for Indigenous people throughout the province.

For Campbell River, that means 37 new homes for the We Wai Kai First Nation, 16 new homes for the Homalco First Nation, and 45 new homes for the Metis Nation.

The projects were selected by BC Housing.

Units developed through the Indigenous Housing Fund will have rental rates linked to the income of tenants to keep them affordable. The fund has invested more than $371 million in housing.
