Some Campbell River students are riding to school this month on a brand-new electric bus, the first of its kind locally.
The fully-electric bus, built by International, cost just over a half-million dollars. Its cost was covered by Clean BC and other provincial grant programs and is expected to save $17,000 annually in fuel and maintenance.
It’s being tested out around town so drivers can get used to it. Later it will be assigned to the Campbell River to Sayward route. Fast chargers have already been installed in both communities for the bus to use, which has a range of about 210 kilometres.
A second bus has also been ordered and will arrive soon, it will be assigned to serve the north end of Campbell River. In total three have been ordered for School District 72.
