A big storm is blowing over Campbell River and the North Island this afternoon, the remnants of Typhoon Pulusan in the Pacific Ocean.
Winds are expected to hit 90 kilometres per hour today, possibly gusting up to 120 according to an Environment Canada weather warning.
The intense winds are from a deep low pressure system that’s crossing offshore waters today, and hitting the coast tonight. Strong southeasterly winds this afternoon will continue into the evening and from about midnight to early Friday, there will also be a period of intense westerly winds. Winds will diminish through the day on Friday as the low moves away from the region.
Trees with weak root systems after several years of drought may blow over in the wind, and people should also look out for fallen branches and airborne debris.
