Nootka Sound RCMP celebrate grand opening of new detachment building

The RCMP in Gold River have a new state-of-the-art home.

The Nootka Sound RCMP detachment, which serves Gold River, Tahsis, and Tsaxana, officially opened a new detachment building on Tuesday. Approximately 75 people came out for the celebration along with representatives from the Mowachaht / Muchalaht First Nation.

Gold River Mayor Michael Lott says the village is pleased to see a new police services detachment that will meet the needs of the community and surrounding area into the future.

Detachment Commander Sgt. Greg Young says the new building will help police not just enforce the law, but work together with the community to address the region’s unique needs.

The new detachment features solar panels to reduce energy consumption, and replaces a 50-year-old building.
