Campbell River sets up new temporary overnight shelter spots

The city has officially designated two new locations for temporary overnight shelters, one year-round, and one seasonal.

The city is legally required to provide designated overnight shelter space for the homeless people. The former designated site is no longer available, it’s being developed into the new Homewood Village, which will provide shelter and support for people seeking pathways out of addiction and homelessness.

The new year-round site is the parking lot beside the Enterprise Centre near city hall, traffic flow has been adjusted to accommodate the site.

The seasonal shelter is at the north end of Ostler Park by the longhouse, and will be in use November 1 to March 31.

They will be open from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. and will be maintained for existing daytime use by all residents.
