Home severely damaged by Tuesday night fire in Stories Beach

No one was hurt in a house fire that happened Tuesday night in the Stories Beach neighbourhood south of Campbell River.

Fire Chief Dan Verdun says the fire department received several calls and when they arrived the fire was already threatening nearby homes.

“Unfortunately, the house was fully involved with flames through the roof,” he said. “We were very concerned about the two adjacent homes, as it was very close in proximity to neighbours on both sides, so we concentrated on those while knocking down the fire in the primary residency.”

The good news, he says, is the family was able to escape along with their pets unharmed, but the house was extensively damaged. A nearby home suffered some minor heat damage but the fire crews were able prevent it from spreading further.

He says the fire is not suspicious, and the homeowner suspects it may have started in the garage. Investigators are on site today.
