BC Hydro will be closing the road over the Strathcona Dam next week, starting on November 6.
The utility is currently working on upgrading the dam, which is part of the three-dam system generating power from the Campbell River watershed.
The work is part of preparation for coming improvements to the Strathcona Dam, which will allow it to use more of the reservoir and add gates, making it more earthquake-resistant and allowing for more control of water flows.
BC Hydro will be constructing temporary spillway gate control facilities, including a temporary control building, on the top of the earthfill dam. The road will need to be closed for eight weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm for worker safety.
After November 15, it will return to single-lane alternating traffic until next spring.
