The city and the Shoreline Arts Society have now created guidelines to determine whether a carving can be repaired, moved, or destroyed.
Last week, city council approved the policy that will decide how the carvings will be dealt with from the annual Transformations on the Shore competition.
Reasons for removal would include if the carving needs excessive maintenance, or repair, if the carving endangers public safety, or if there are significant changes in the design due to weathering and deteriorating that affect the integrity of the carving.
With the policy in place, the Public Art Committee will now review carvings throughout the year to determine whether they are suitable for disposal.
