The City of Campbell River is opening up a warming centre at the Campbell River Community Centre tonight.
In a release, the City says they’re opening the centre in response to the cold weather forecast for tonight, which will have an overnight low of 3 degrees.
Director of Community Safety Jeff Ford says the centre is a life-saver for those experiencing homelessness.
“The Warming Centre depends on the efforts of many staff, volunteers and partners to run successfully,” said Ford.
The centre is open to all for short-term stays, where you can bring pets on leashes and belongings including bikes and carts.
While hot drinks, snacks, and seating will be provided, the City says there won’t be any beds.
The centre activates at 10:00 p.m. today and will be open until 7:00 a.m. on Monday.
