The River 99.7 FM is back on air after being offline most of today.
BC Hydro has fixed the damage caused by a tree down across the wires in the location where our on-air transmitter is located.
We also continue streaming live through our website, and through the RadioPlayer Canada app, available in both Apple and Android app stores.
Thanks to our listeners for their patience during today’s outage.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of people on Vancouver Island are still without power, as the effects continue from Tuesday night’s bomb cyclone.
Manager of Community Relations for BC Hydro Ted Olynyk says the east side of Vancouver Island was hit hard by the ongoing windstorm.
In Campbell River, more than 1600 homes in the north end are still without power, and some pockets throughout town are also still dark.
Olynyk says Hydro brought in crews from the Lower Mainland and hope to bring more as the weather calms. Unfortunately Quadra and Cortes Islanders may have to wait until tonight or tomorrow, as crews weren’t able to make it over until this afternoon because of ferry cancellations.
The ferry to Quadra was scheduled to start running again at 4 pm, after sailings were cancelled since early this morning because of high winds.
