A new village for Campbell River’s homeless population has welcomed its first residents.
Homewood Village on Homewood Road, build over the last year, has 40 temporary housing units and support services on site for residents looking to escape the cycles of addiction and homelessness. This weekend, the first residents were moved in.
There will be a settling in period before the next group is introduced to their new home.
The village was built through a partnership between the city and BC Housing. The city says it supports Campbell River’s commitment to community health and safety for everyone, while working together on more permanent solutions.
Lookout Housing and Health Society was chosen as the operator, and will provide 24-7 support for residents.
