A fundraiser has been launched for a woman who was hit by a car just before Remembrance Day while she was sleeping in a tent downtown.
The 53-year-old woman, known as Darlene, was sleeping in a homeless encampment in the alley behind the Harbourside Inn. In the early morning hours of November 10, she was hit and seriously injured by a car driving through the alley.
RCMP say the driver was located at the scene and an investigation is underway. They say so far intoxicants have not been ruled out as a contributing factor.
Darlene’s friends are holding a burger and beer fundraiser so her family can visit and stay with her in the hospital in Vancouver. It’s at Match Eatery on December 1.
