The Campbell River School District says it is awaiting the results of air quality testing before deciding when to reopen Carihi Secondary School.
The school suffered fire and water damage in a night blaze on November 21.
The district says the fire was contained to the A-wing, which includes the gym, mezzanine, multi-purpose room, teaching kitchen, stage, and lower classrooms.
SD72 says B-wing sustained smoke and water damage.
Air scrubbers are being used to ensure acceptable air quality and it hopes to get building occupancy approval for staff to be able to re-enter the unaffected portions of the school by the end of this week.
During the weekend district staff restored power, heat, and water to unaffected areas of the school and cleaning, airing out, and air filter replacements are underway in undamaged areas.
The school district is looking for temporary classroom spaces and community facilities to accommodate extracurricular programs, athletics, choir, band, and theatre.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
