Rebuilt Strathcona Gardens parking lot will have EV chargers

When Strathcona Gardens in Campbell River finishes its multi-year overhaul, the parking lot will be more EV-friendly.

The Strathcona Regional District, which manages the Gardens, is looking at partnering with BC Hydro to install four new electric vehicle chargers at the facility. BC Hydro would cover half of the installation costs and leverage federal funding for the other half. BC Hydro would operate the units and cover all maintenance costs, according to a report from regional district CAO Brian Leitch.

The units are valued at around $185,000 each, with maintenance costing up to $10,000 per year.

By 2035, the province aims to have all new vehicles sold in BC have zero emissions.
