Another round of vandalism aimed at roadside red dress displays has RCMP asking for the public’s help finding the culprits.
The latest incident happened along the Inland Island Highway, below the Welcome to Campbell River sign, where painted wooden dresses were on display to draw attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women. Sometime overnight on November 24, the wooden displays were torn down and destroyed.
The dresses are part of a 45-piece art installation from Campbell River to Comox, set up May 5. Since then, 28 of them have been vandalized.
RCMP Const. Maury Tyre says people have put their time, money, and heart into making the displays. He says anyone with information about the vandals can contact the Campbell River RCMP’s non-emergency line, or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
