Air testing gives all-clear for return to classes at Carihi Monday

Carihi Secondary School will be open again for students on Monday, with a temporary new schedule in place to make up lost time.

School District 72 says independent air quality testing has been completed and the school is cleared for regular classes to resume December 2.

Staff are at the school today to prepare for students’ return. Students and families have been informed about the new temporary schedule and learning locations.

A school bus will transport students between Carihi Secondary and Oyster River, where some classes will be relocated to the former Oyster River School.

Some classes will also be held at École des Deux Mondes Elementary, and gym classes will take place at Robron Centre until further notice. To meet class needs, a few classes will also move to different spaces within Carihi.

To minimize lost instructional time, the school will use a simple Day 1 and Day 2 schedule with double blocks.

  • Day 1 (Blocks A and C): Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Day 2 (Blocks B and D): Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Fridays will alternate between Day 1 and Day 2

Start and dismissal times will stay the same, and the morning and afternoon bus schedules will not change.

The district hopes the move will only last until the winter break, but repairing the fire damage may take up to two months.
