New water meter rollout in Area D begins

Homeowners south of Campbell River will soon have new water meters installed thanks to nearly $3 million from the province.

The Strathcona Regional District has contracted Edgett Excavation to install radio-readable water meters at 852 locations within Area D. The Universal Water Metering Project will help the regional district and residents track water use, and help with sustainable water management, says regional district board Chair Mark Baker.

The information collected from the meters will also help the district identify leaks in the system, and ensure its long-term sustainability and reliability.

The work will take up to 12 months, and all installation costs will be covered by the provincial grant.
