The City of Campbell River hopes provincial land use restrictions can be lifted on a part of Shoppers Row.
The city recently applied to the BC Government to remove restrictions at 1235 Shoppers Row, where the Centennial building is located.
By removing the restrictions, not only would that bring the use of that section into compliance but also allow the city to make changes for its downtown revitalization project.
The city says the Crown Grant restrictions limit the use of the land to museum, library, or tourism bureau purposes, which makes the city out of compliance as of now.
“As part of the application process, signage must be placed on site and notifications shared with the community,” said the City.
They add no decisions have been made about the building’s future yet, but it’s an important step in getting rid of those restrictions.
