New zoning along Dogwood aims to increase multi-family housing supply

Council has approved new zoning for Dogwood Street which will help encourage new multi-family developments.

At this past week’s meeting, council adopted a zoning amendment bylaw which affects properties along the central part of Dogwood Street, between 9th Avenue and Robron. The changes mean developers can now build up to 10 stories in the zone, similar to the 10 storey development at Merecroft Village.

The city has federal funding through the Housing Accelerator Fund, which is overseen by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The city will use the funding to help increase the number of homes for middle-income earners, and encourage new multi-family developments, especially if they are in areas with frequent public transit.

For more information about the city’s plans for the zone, visit the official website.
