With no significant changes expected for enrollment numbers, School District 72 has adopted a long-term plan that maintains the status quo for school buildings.
The district approved a new 10-year plan for facilities at its January 14 meeting, which will focus on small-scale renovations, including universal washrooms at some schools.
The exception is Cedar Elementary School, which has been targeted for replacement for years. Premier David Eby committed to fast-track the project during an election campaign stop last year.
District data shows the birth rate in the region has been declining, hitting an all-time low in 2022. However, new families moving to town are helping slowly increase enrollment by just under three and a half percent per year during the last five years.
