Campbell River will be hosting minor hockey players from all over BC in March, for the Under-13 BC Hockey Championship.
Campbell River’s North Island Bears will host the Tier 1 championship, which will bring up to 10 of the top teams from around the province to the Rod Brind’Amour Arena from March 15-19.
Stewart Dumont, Campbell River Minor Hockey president, says the Bears are hoping to become provincial champions on home ice, but also want to be known as good hosts. The association is appealing to the Strathcona Regional District for help with ice rental fees, as they provided in 2018 when Campbell River last hosted the championship.
The Strathcona Gardens Commission has directed staff to see how they can help support the event.
