Lack of maintenance on Brewster Lake Road has caused its condition to deteriorate, and BC Parks is looking to hand off responsibility.
Brewster Lake Road is the primary access route to all forest and recreation areas west of Campbell River. It provides access to private lands, reserve lands, and Crown lands west of Elk Falls Park. However, in 2023, its condition had deteriorated to the point of prompting numerous complaints.
Now, BC Parks proposes to transfer jurisdiction of the road passing through Elk Falls Park to the provincial transportation ministry, so it can “be maintained to a standard expected by road users travelling within and beyond the park boundaries.” Parts of Snowden Road would also be included.
The proposal is open for comment by local governments until February 18.
