Access remains restricted for Airport Drive south after fuel spill

The city and a private leaseholder are still dealing with a fuel spill by the Campbell River airport that happened on Tuesday.

The city was notified of the spill on Tuesday, after it happened on privately-leased land at the airport. The province and Fisheries and Oceans Canada were notified of the event.

The city supported the response and set up sock booms and spill pads in the area to absorb the fuel.

Airport Drive south of the terminal building remains closed to vehicle traffic and pedestrians until further notice, but local traffic is still permitted.

Trails in the dog-walking area at the south end of Airport Drive have also been closed. Residents are encouraged to stay out of creeks and ditches by the airport while the cleanup continues and to keep pets out of the area.
