North Island Highway crash claims the lives of two central coast residents

A single-vehicle crash near Brown’s Bay has claimed the lives of two central coast residents after it collided with trees on the North Island Highway.

According to RCMP, the vehicle was occupied by four people as it was headed southbound on Mar. 12 around 3 p.m., and shortly after it left the road causing two people to be taken to hospital for treatment for their minor injuries, but the driver and another passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Constable Maury Tyre says the incident is very tragic, and they offer their prayers to the family.

“The Campbell River RCMP wishes to offer our sincerest condolences to the families of the community of the victims,” he says. “We appreciate the public and media providing them time and space in these difficult times.”

Police say the investigation is still underway and say a significant hailstorm in the area was a contributing factor in the crash.
