The BC Lottery Corporation provided $1.34 million to 54 community organizations in Campbell River last year.
That’s from the corporation’s latest Community Impact Report, which details how gambling revenue is redistributed to communities around the province.
In Campbell River, most of the money was from revenue generated by the Chances Community Gaming Centre, which was $943,000. The report shows revenue sharing from all casinos and gaming centres was reduced in BC from the previous year.
In the latest budget, the city allocated $150,000 in gaming revenue to community initiatives.
It also maintains a Gaming Reserve Fund built over past years, and uses the money to fund numerous initiatives including the downtown Live Streets program.
The report also shows that in 2023, 95 locals won more than $410,000 from lottery tickets.
