SRD looking for artist proposals for two art projects

Strathcona Regional District is looking for artists to work on two art projects.

The district is asking artists to submit proposals for these projects, which aim to support community awareness and resilience through creative expression.

The first project will have artists design, supply, and install a sculpture representing a tsunami near the tsunami evacuation map on Walters Island. The district says the goal of this installation is to both draw attention to the map and to encourage more engagement with emergency preparedness info.

For the second project, artists will be painting murals reflecting climate adaptation on Cortes Island, with hopes of starting community talks.

The murals will be painted on four water tanks at Sutil Road and Mansons Landing Firehall.

They say for the proposals, you should show a visual rendering of the proposed artwork, and a description explaining how that work meets the project’s criteria.

A selection committee will review the proposals, with the district board to give final approval.

The chosen artists will be notified on August 21 this year and have to finish both projects by January 31 next year.

You have until July 28 at 4:00 p.m. to submit your proposal.
