The Island Coastal Economic Trust and Tourism Vancouver Island are looking at how to market Vancouver Island as a hiking destination.
Trust CEO Line Robert says it’s the second phase of a three-phase project. She says they’re taking an existing product, what they already have, and seeing how they can expand on that and market it to the international visitor.
She believes Vancouver Island can do with hiking trails what skiing did for British Columbia in the 1980’s – really bringing in the international recreational marketplace into the community.
The strategic plan is expected to be complete in early 2016.
