North Island College student takes gold at Skills Canada

A North Island College student has earned a gold medal at the Skills Canada competition in Toronto.

Nathan Munro won gold in the Heavy Vehicle Technology category and qualified for the national competition after earning top spot at the provincial competition in Abbotsford in April.

Munro is a Level 2 heavy-duty student. The competition saw him work through six different stations, including hydraulics, electronics, drivetrain and undercarriage.

“I really didn’t have a lot of expectations,” Munro said. “I was going for the experience.”

The annual Skills Canada event was held May 27 to 30. It is a multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices, with more than 550 competitors representing all regions of the country.
