Reports of shooting and kidnapping unfounded: Campbell River RCMP

Campbell River RCMP say reports of shots fired and a kidnapping at a 7th Avenue residence on Friday, June 5, were unfounded.

Police responded to the call around 7:15 a.m. with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team.

RCMP say officers interviewed witnesses at the scene and determined one of them discharged a bear banger in an attempt to get someone’s attention and prompt a 911 call, as the witness did not have a cellphone to report the alleged kidnapping.

“Further investigation into the alleged kidnapping was deemed unfounded and the witness has been provided with the necessary medical care he may need,” Campbell River RCMP said.

Police say they worked closely with a nearby school to ensure the safety of students, staff and parents during the morning drop-off period.
