Wildfire training exercise on Cortes Island scheduled for June 14

Residents and visitors in the Mansons Landing area of Cortes Island may notice increased emergency response activity on June 14.

The Strathcona Regional District said members of the Cortes Island Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service will take part in a large-scale wildfire training exercise near the Cortes Island Co-op, Mansons Hall and the fire hall.

The exercise will involve more than 40 firefighters and wildfire personnel operating sprinklers, pumps, hand lines and other wildfire response equipment.

The SRD said the exercise will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The regional district reminded residents that the event is a training exercise and that there is no emergency.
