Team Canada World Cup pride on display in Campbell River

Campbell River came together Thursday to cheer on Canada’s men’s national soccer team.

Hundreds gathered at Robron Park for a watch party as Team Canada faced Qatar in its second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The City of Campbell River hosted the event, called Soccer by the Sea, with support from a $20,000 provincial grant.

Hailey, a Soccer by the Sea co-ordinator and coach with the Campbell River Youth Soccer Association, said she was happy to see the turnout.

“It’s so exciting to see so many people come out to watch the game,” said Hailey. “We weren’t sure how many people were going to come, but we are so happy to see so many people here.”

She said the event was made possible through the province’s 2026 Community Event Support Fund.

“We thought this event would be fun,” said Hailey. “We thought it was a good opportunity to bring the community together to watch this awesome event that happens to actually get to be in Canada.”

Canada defeated Qatar 6-0.
