Lane closures scheduled for intersection at Dogwood Street and 16th Avenue

B.C. Hydro is advising that crews will install underground electrical infrastructure at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Dogwood Street from July 20 to July 24.

The utility said lane closures are required to allow the work to be completed safely.

“BC Hydro’s system improvement work along 16th Avenue began in mid-January and is part of critical electrical infrastructure upgrades needed to support future growth in electricity demand, including BC Ferries electrification initiatives,” said a B.C. Hydro release.

Dogwood Street will be reduced to a single lane in both directions and, at times, single-lane alternating traffic will be in place as work progresses. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time for travel, expect delays and watch for roadside workers.

“BC Hydro recognizes this is a busy intersection and that the work will cause temporary inconvenience for residents, commuters and local businesses,” said the release. “Our goal is to ensure the project is completed safely and responsibly and we thank the community for their patience.”

Electronic message boards have been installed throughout the surrounding area to help drivers plan ahead.
