New electric vehicle charging hub opens in Campbell River

Electric vehicle owners in Campbell River have new options in the community to charge their vehicles.

BC Hydro said it has opened a new electric vehicle charging hub at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex.

The new hub has two fast chargers capable of charging two vehicles at once, as well as four Level 2 chargers.

“This new EV fast-charge hub in Campbell River will provide an important new option for local drivers and for people travelling up and down Vancouver Island, making it easier to charge quickly and reliably along their journey,” said Adrian Dix, minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.

The utility said the fast chargers can deliver up to 180 kilowatts while power-sharing between vehicles.

Strathcona Regional District officials said the hub is a welcome addition to the community.

“We’re pleased to welcome this new EV charging hub to the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex,” said Mark Baker, Strathcona Regional District board chair. “This project is a great example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships with organizations like BC Hydro.”

The hub is part of BC Hydro’s plan to more than triple its public charging network to 3,500 charging ports by 2035.
