Campbell River RCMP charge man with break-and-enter following overnight patrol

A Campbell River man is facing several charges after RCMP say proactive patrols led officers to a suspected break and enter at a downtown business.

Police say an officer spotted a suspicious man riding an e-bike away from a commercial area shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.

The officer seized property believed to be stolen and, minutes later, police were called to a nearby business to investigate a reported break and enter.

RCMP say the property was linked to the business.

“What’s notable in this case is that our officers identified and investigated the suspicious activity before police were ever called about the break and enter,” said Inspector Jeff Preston, officer in charge of the Campbell River RCMP. “This is a great example of the value of proactive patrols and officers being engaged in the community during overnight hours.”

A 40-year-old man faces charges including break and enter, two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and obstruction of a peace officer.

He is also facing charges stemming from a separate incident Aug. 15, including attempted break and enter and mischief under $5,000.

The man is being held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
