The Campbell River School District is celebrating two graduates whose academic achievements have earned them the Governor General’s Academic Medal.
Cole Pearson of Carihi Secondary and Jack Bow of Timberline Secondary have received the award, which is given to the student with the highest overall average upon graduation from a participating secondary school.
“Cole and Jack have demonstrated what’s possible through dedication, curiosity, and a commitment to learning,” said Geoff Manning, superintendent of schools.
The medal was first awarded in 1873 and recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement. The Governor General’s office describes it as one of the most prestigious awards students in Canadian schools can receive.
Campbell River School District officials are congratulating Pearson and Bow on the achievement and wishing them well in their future studies and careers.
“Cole and Jack’s success reflects years of hard work, curiosity, and support from their families, teachers, and school communities,” said a statement from SD72.
The school district said Pearson plans to study mechanical engineering at the University of Victoria, while Bow plans to spend the next year working before beginning post-secondary studies.
