SRD candidates declared

The nomination period has closed for the 2026 general local election, with competition for Strathcona Regional District representation in two of its four electoral areas.

There will be three names on the ballot for Area B, which includes Cortes Island: Jade Jordan, Sandy Keith and Mark Vonesch.

Voters in Area D, which includes Oyster Bay and Buttle Lake, will have two options: John Rice and Bernadette Lafleur.

Only one candidate was declared in Area A, which includes Kyuquot, Nootka and Sayward: Gerald Whalley. Area C, which includes the Discovery Islands and mainland inlets, also has one candidate: Robyn Mawhinney.

Whalley and Mawhinney are expected to be elected by acclamation if they remain the only candidates after the withdrawal deadline.

The deadline for candidates to withdraw their nomination is Sept. 18.

General voting day is Oct. 17.
