Campbell River SAR rescues two from Sandbag Lake area

A late-night callout last week for Campbell River Search and Rescue ended with two people being safely rescued from the Sandbag Lake area.

On Sept. 8, Campbell River Search and Rescue said its members responded to an iPhone SOS activation from two people sheltering in a tent during strong winds and heavy rain, with concerns about hypothermia.

Four members used ATVs and a utility vehicle to reach the Tennent Lake trailhead before hiking in to the pair.

The rescue team said a helicopter was requested and approved for the extraction because of the condition of the two people and deteriorating trail conditions.

“A long night for the team, but most importantly, two subjects safely back to their vehicle,” said Campbell River Search and Rescue in a statement.

The two people were airlifted from Sandbag Lake to their vehicle at the trailhead.
