SRD clarifies plans for new aquatic centre change rooms

The Strathcona Regional District is clarifying plans for change rooms at the new Strathcona Gardens Aquatic Centre.

The centre will open in October with universal change rooms, while additional gendered change rooms are expected to open next summer.

The SRD said the universal change rooms will have individual, floor-to-ceiling private stalls, with 11 of 17 rooms containing showers.

“Similar to our current family change room, universal change rooms feature individual, full-height private rooms situated along a bright, high-visibility corridor,” said the SRD in a statement. “Each lockable stall features floor-to-ceiling partitions to ensure complete personal privacy and security. The main corridor opens directly to the pool deck, and there are no open group showers in the change area.”

There will also be five open-format showers beside the pool for rinsing before swimming.

The regional district said the design provides clear sightlines for lifeguards and staff, while keeping changing areas private.
