SRD seeks volunteers for Quadra Island wetland work party

The Strathcona Regional District is looking for volunteers to help with blackberry removal and native plantings at the Quadra Island School Wetland.

A community work party will be held Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 1 to 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

About $9,000 worth of native plants will arrive at the school around 11 a.m. Friday. The project is funded through the SRD’s B.C. Hydro ReGreening Grant in partnership with Quadra ICAN.

Lunch, snacks, water, pruners, gloves, a FireSmart metal coffee mug and up to four wheelbarrows will be provided.

Volunteers are asked to dress for gardening work each day and bring shovels Friday through Sunday.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Shaun Koopman, manager of emergency services, at 250-830-6702 or skoopman@srd.ca with the dates and times they are available.
