Candice Lowery running for city council in Campbell River

A longtime Campbell River resident and local entrepreneur is running for city council, saying she wants to give back to the community.

Candice Lowery said she brings deep community roots and 20 years of business experience to the race.

“For 20 years I have had a real connection to people here, so I’m all about service,” said Lowery. “With the hard work that is instilled in me and my integrity, I can take that and put it towards serving the people that have also served me and my business.”

Lowery said she wants the city to maintain its momentum, with a focus on business, tourism and fiscal responsibility.

“My focus is business, tourism, fiscal responsibility, moderate taxes and trying to keep them low,” explained Lowery. “I think that’s been done well in the last four years, so I would like to continue with that.”

She also wants to see more people vote in this year’s municipal election than in 2022, when voter turnout was 36.2 per cent.

“Usually in municipal it’s a low turnout. Based on 2022, it was a change election, so a lot of people were asking for a switch over to have some new initiatives brought forward by the city. Only about ten thousand people showed up to vote.”

The municipal election is Oct. 17.
