Campbell River one of first communities to get increased overdose support

Eighteen communities in British Columbia are going to be the first to get resources to fight the overdose crisis. That includes Campbell River.

The province says the support involves dedicated funding and on-the-ground “community action teams”. It’s part of the government’s plan to increase its response to the problem.

This comes on the heels of the announcement this week that more than 1400 people in B.C. died of an illicit drug overdose last year with 36 of those deaths in the North Vancouver Island area.

The province says the CAT will focus on expanding community-based harm-reduction services, increasing the availability of naloxone, addressing the unsafe drug supply and supporting people at risk of overdose through early intervention.
