BC Hydro looking to move Strathcona Dam campground

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-BC Hydro is looking to move the Strathcona Dam campground. The plan is to relocate it to the spot formerly known as “Little America” by 2020.

The move is to accommodate the proposed Strathcona Dam Water Discharge Upgrade Project, which could begin in 2021. The project includes a new low level outlet which will go deep into the reservoir to allow for water levels to be lowered after an earthquake.

The Little America site beat out 21 other locations after consultation with stakeholders and meeting a number of criteria. People can give their thoughts on the new campsite location by getting in touch with Stephen Watson at BC Hydro by emailing [email protected] or calling 1-250-755-4795.
