CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-The RCMP had a busy day kicking off its month-long distracted driving and seatbelt campaign.
Officers were out in full force last Friday. The RCMP says they were working several “call operations” throughout Campbell River that day, targeting areas considered “high risk”, like intersections and busy roads.
In total officers handed out 92 violations in just eight hours. Those violations included 14 people using their cell phones while driving, 24 people not wearing a seatbelt, and 14 other various warnings.
Officers also charged the driver of a transport truck. He was talking on his phone, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, and didn’t have a licence. His truck was impounded for seven days.
