CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Strathcona Gardens is getting some big improvements. Energy efficient upgrades worth $4.6 million are going to be installed at the facility.
The funding for the project, which was announced today, is coming from the Federal Gas Tax Fund. The SRD says the new systems will make the Gardens more efficient, safe, sustainable and cost-effective.
There’s going to be a heat energy recovery system, snow melting pits, a solar power system, and new high-efficiency air-handlers to replace the old ones.
SRD Board Chair Michele Babchuk says the new systems “will continue to add value in the planned upgrades and renovations proposed through the REC-REATE project”.
That project could start as early as 2020 with these new heating and cooling upgrades being able to remain in place, possibly even offsetting some REC-CREATE construction costs.
