CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Campbell River’s Fire Department is celebrating its dispatchers.
This coming week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. It honours the men and women who respond to emergency calls and dispatch life-saving help.
Campbell River’s dispatchers provide service for 61 fire departments in total, extending from central Vancouver Island to the northern tip of the Vancouver Island and across to Powell River as well as the Peace River Region, covering roughly 310,000 people.
They handle more than 21,000 calls a year. Deputy city manager Ron Neufeld says Campbell River’s fire dispatchers “are recognized for their expertise and professionalism.”
