CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Drivers going along Highway 19A between 5th Ave to 2nd Ave should expect traffic and parking interruptions as part of the new sewer line construction. According to a schedule released by the city, work done between 6th Ave to 5th Ave on on the highway is now set to be paved over.
The new sewer line is set to replace the aging infrastructure with a new and larger service to accommodate the community’s growth. 2019 will see new pump stations built along the Old Island Highway.
Here are a few things residents need to keep in mind as construction continues this month:
- Construction will remain on the west side of Highway 19A.
- Crews are working an alternating 6-day/4-day shifts, which will limit traffic activity every second Friday.
- There will be temporary “No Parking” signs on stretches of the road to allow traffic and construction activity.
Connecting to the new sewer line will also depend on where you live:
- South of 321 Island Highway: the contractor will connect homes to the new sewer main. Expect a short interruption before the project ends.
- North of 321 Island Highway: the contractor will install a new pipe from the sewer main to the property line to allow future hookup to the main line.
- West (uphill) side of Highway 19A: all homes between 6th Ave and 1st Ave will be connected to the new sewer main.
