Local mother’s car defaced, autobody shop helping her fix it for free

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A Campbell river woman had her van vandalized this week.

Kayla Chris noticed her van had been spray-painted on Tuesday.

She said she noticed her license plate was completely covered in black spray paint, and the doors were covered in squiggles.

She has no idea who may have spray-painted her car. Leigh thinks it might be some kids playing around, or it might actually be someone who may have hard feelings toward her.

“Yeah, it was pretty upsetting; it obviously doesn’t look very pretty. I have three children and I’m out and about a lot doing errands.”

“I have a couple of ideas because I know there may be a couple of people who may be upset with some things… there were about four other vehicles in our parking lot, and it was only mine that was touched,” Leigh said.

Either way, she said it was disheartening to see her van defaced.

She posted pictures of her van on Facebook, asking for ways to get rid of the spray paint. Several residents gave her tips. Aaron Curran is a sales consultant at the Steve Marshall Ford dealership.

Curran messaged Chris and offered to fix the van for free. According to Chris, they also offered to clean the inside of her van.

“I asked how much it would cost and he said it would be free, pretty much Merry Christmas!”

Chris said it was encouraging to receive such kindness after what she went through.

Speaking with the MyCampbellRiverNow.com newsroom, Curran said he knew the cost of fixing up the van’s paint would be too much for the family.

“I saw that it would hinder her Christmas with her family, and I didn’t want to see that either,” Curran said.

He added that he had a quick discussion with the team, and they all decided to offer their services for free.

“It was in our best interests to help out, just to be able to be there for someone over Christmas. For us, it was an opportunity for our team to give back.”

Curran said they hope to get the van fixed and cleaned by next week.
