QUADRA ISLAND, B.C. – Quadra Elementary will soon have a safer crosswalk.
This is according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
In her report at the end of 2018, North Island MLA Claire Trevena stated that making the crosswalk in front of Quadra Elementary on Heriot Bay Rd is one of her office’s priorities, as community members have been bringing the issue up to her office.Â
The ministry has received input and requests from the community to make improvements in front of the school. In an emailed statement, the ministry said staff are currently exploring ways to improve the crossing.
The ministry ordered additional 30 km/h school zone signs. They will soon be installed near the school to regulate drivers’ speed close to the area.
Engineers are also analyzing traffic and pedestrian data to review all potential options to enhance pedestrian safety.
There is no word yet on when the signs will be installed or if there will be changes to the crossing guard program at the school.
